Farm Plastics Recycling

Used baleage wrap has been a major problem on New Zealand farms ever since it was introduced as a crop protection material. Once used the disposal of baleage wrap has traditionally been done by burning and/or burying on the farm. Both these options cause significant environmental damage and are actively discouraged.

Agpac has developed a practical and easy solution to the problem. The bin and liner system is designed to cut down on contamination, keep your farm tidy and make collection of the baleage for recycling easier and more efficient.

In the absence of a recycling option, plastic is often left in piles all over the farm which then blows around. This causes a litter problem and damages the unique and special environment which many people come to see.

The key reason why baleage wrap is difficult to recycle is the very high levels of contamination found in the plastic. This includes mud, manures , water and heavy objects used to weigh down the plastic to stop it blowing around.

The volume of contamination can be as high as 58% and this makes recycling this plastic difficult and expensive.

But now there is a solution!

The Bin and Liner system is

designed to cut down on the

contamination, keep your farm

tidy and to make the collection

easier and more efficient.

HOW TO ASSEMBLE YOUR BIN

Assemble the Bin by clipping the two ends of the Bins together to make a circle.

Place a liner into the Bin, making sure the liner touches the bottom. Don't let the liner "hang" on the sides of the Bin. Make sure you have sufficient overhang to allow you to tie off the liner when its full.

Put the lid on the top, and you're ready to go.

The most contamination occurs when the plastic is left lying around on the farm. This makes the recycling difficult and more costly.
Place your used baleage wraps into the liner daily and as soon as possible after you have fed out the bales.
Take care to set the bottom layer of wraps to ensure you get a good bottom layer.
Thereafter just roll up your used wraps and place them in the Bin.
You can put as much plastic in as you want.

When your liner is filled, tie off the top, attach a label and then set the liner aside ready for collection.

Store the plastic on hard ground where it is easy to collect

Do not store under overhead wires or trees or next to buildings.

This is how your filled liners should look.

When you're ready for a collection phone Agpac. We will programme your request into the collection round.

Segregate your waste at source

We can accept a number of plastics from you, but please help us to help you help the environment.

Separate your different plastics.

We can accept the following plastics:

Stream 1

Baleage wrap, silage pit covers, small feed and fertiliser bags, plastic packaging and shrink wrap.

Stream 2

Bulk feed or fertiliser bags. These have woven PP outer bags and LDPE inner bags.
Please make sure all the contents are out of the bags.

Do not mix waste streams.

All liners must be tagged with farm name and address.

Filled liners will not be uplifted if there are mixed materials.
